Phil DeSantis uses strong layers of watercolor washes with an emphasis on describing landscape and architecture through light and shadow. These paintings reveal his deep fascination with industrial structures, and he attempts to preserve them through his paintings as they continue to disappear from our landscape. DeSantis also finds much of his inspiration locally, from the wide open spaces of Brighton Beach to the brownstone-lined streets of Park Slope to the mountain towns in Italy to the New England Architecture of Maine.
DeSantis received his BFA and Masters of Art Education at Brooklyn college. He has taught high school students drawing and painting for many years at Murrow High School. Presently, he has been focusing more fully on drawing and painting as well as exploring ceramics and photography.
