Mary LaRose is a visual artist who graduated with a fine arts degree with honors from Brooklyn College
where she studied painting with Philip Pearlstein, Alan D’Arcangelo and William Williams and has shown
her work in the Brooklyn Museum. She is a figurative and portraiture artist who is known for her ability to
capture the essence of a person. Her use of color and composition provides a unique lens through which
to view her work. Just as improvisation is of the moment, she captures a point of time through her art.
She is also a jazz vocalist who currently performs with her own and different groups and has been
performing for over 40 years. Her records have been critically acclaimed as she continues to push the
envelope as a jazz artist. She is known for writing original lyrics to the music of Ornette Coleman, Charles
Mingus, Anthony Braxton and Eric Dolphy, to name a few.
Mary's multidisciplinary work proves that there need not be a distinction between the arts.
