Abraham (Avi) Ulman is a retired chemistry professor. I was born in 1946 in Israel, and had received a PhD in Chemistry from the Weizmann Institute. My interest in ceramic art started when working from 1985 to 1994 at Eastman Kodak. While in Rochester, I had studied pottery at the Rochester Art Gallery, mainly working on hand-built structures and was fascinated with the unique creativity offered by glazing. After moving to Brooklyn I continued developing hand building techniques in pottery, working in a private studio in Park Slope. From 2009 to 2011 I joined The Art Student League, and studied metal sculpting, concentrating on building sculptures using welding techniques. Since recently retiring I have been a member of the Choplet Ceramic Studio, where I focus on hand building ceramic structures.
